The Department of Medical Histology and Cell Biology was established at Horus University, Egypt, in the academic year 2016/2017. It started with the Faculties of Pharmacy and Dentistry, followed by the Faculty of Physical Therapy, and finally the Faculty of Medicine.

The department's human resources were composed of faculty members who were fully or partially seconded from the universities of Mansoura, Al-Azhar (Damietta), Kafr El-Sheikh, Zagazig, and Helwan.

The number of faculty members increased as the number of faculties teaching the courses of Medical Histology and Cell Biology increased, which are the aforementioned four faculties.
